On Friday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Reggie Dial from Women's Protective Services spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the prevalence of domestic violence in Texas.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Dial said that, unfortunately, 1 out of every 3 women in Texas is a victim of some form of domestic violence. And it's not just physical violence; domestic violence also includes sexual, mental, and verbal abuse as well. Dial also said that children who are brought up witnessing domestic violence between their parents are nearly 1500 times more likely to get involved in a domestic violence relationship as well. However, Dial added that Texas also has some of the strictest laws in the U.S. against domestic violence.

If you or someone you know is victim of domestic violence, call Women's Protective Services at 806-748-5292. For more information on WPS, you can also visit their website at wpslubbock.org.
