One person is still alive following an attempted murder and suicide in east Lubbock.

Lubbock Police received a call of shots fired at the Budget Motel at I-27 and 34th Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say that Brenda Sue Caudillo and Pedro Esteban Hernandez, both 44 years old, had gotten into an argument inside one of the hotel rooms, and Hernandez shot Caudillo multiple times.

Caudillo escaped the hotel room and yelled for help, and several people nearby called 911.

Hernandez then reportedly shot himself in the hotel room.

Caudillo was taken to University Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that no criminal charges are expected, but a full death investigation will be completed.
