ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Police in North Texas say a woman is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a teenager suffered a gunshot to the neck during a weekend domestic disturbance.

Arlington police Lt. Christopher Cook says officers responded to a disturbance at a home Sunday where they found the wounded 13-year-old boy.

They learned the shooter was in the back yard of the home and when they approached she shot herself in the chest.

The woman, identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office as 45-year-old Vertalee McPherson, was taken to a hospital where she died.

The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Cook says there was an altercation between McPherson and another woman prior to the shooting. The teen's relationship to the women was not clear.
