Wildfires Continue in the Big Country

KAMC & KTAB Television stations Saturday evening are reporting a new wildfire has broken out near Colorado City.

From Saturday afternoon
GRAHAM, Texas (AP) — A Texas official says a new fire has broken out not far from a blaze that destroyed at least 30 homes at a popular lake resort.

Texas Forest Service spokesman Marq Webb said Saturday there was no information on whether the 200-acre fire in Young County about 150 miles west of Dallas was threatening homes.

The county includes a portion of Possum Kingdom Lake, where a raging fire Friday destroyed at least 30 homes and forced hundreds of evacuations.

Webb said calmer winds improved firefighting conditions Saturday, but the state still had “very active fire behavior.”

The forest service says it has responded to 95 fires burning more than 700,000 acres in the past week.
