Patrick Mahomes will win several awards this off-season.

In fact, as Texastech.com has reported, Patrick Mahomes has collected his first award of the season last week. He was named the winner of the prestigious 2016 Sammy Baugh Award. Mahomes led the NCAA in passing yards, total offense, points responsible for and total touchdowns.

Mahomes was also named an Academic All-American -- the first Texas Tech quarterback to get the distinction since Kliff Kingsbury was manning the helm on the field in Lubbock.

Patrick Mahomes led the FBS in passing plays of 10+ yards, 20+ yards, 30+ yards and 50+ yards.

Most will look at his lack of "Heisman Moments" as a contributing factor in his snub from the Heisman ballot, but what's more impressive than smashing records?

Against Oklahoma, Mahomes set a single-game NCAA record for total offense with 819 yards. He tied the single-game FBS passing record with 734 yards, while also rushing for a career-high 85 yards. He scored seven total touchdowns in the game, one of his six performances this season with at least five total touchdowns. Is that not Heisman enough?

Against Baylor, Mahomes had another elite game: a 586-yard, six-touchdown performance earning him the third Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award of the year. The 500-yard performance was one of four this season for Mahomes — no other FBS quarterback hit the 500-yard plateau more than once this season.

Ty Detmer holds the record for Total Offense All-Time for a Heisman Trophy winner at 5,022.

Mahomes has 5,312.

Just based on stats, Patrick Mahomes is the best in the country. So why are Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson and DeShaun Watson on the final ballot while Patrick is left at home?

Wins.

If you want to be a Heisman trophy winner, you have to be a winner - as in, your team's record.

And the bottom line is, Patrick Mahomes, as a Red Raider, has not been a winner.

He's great (an all-time great, statistically), but for whatever reason that has not translated into wins.
