In an interview for KFYO’s  public service program, Aubrey Spear, the director of water resources for the city, talked about the importance of a water deal that took place last year.

“[Because of the deal for ] the  T. Boone Pickens water rights last year,…we now probably have the largest holdings of water rights potentially in the U.S. all in one place in up in the Roberts County well field.”

But there is a big challenge.  Getting the water to Lubbock.   Or as Spear put it:

“We have a large Big Gulp.  But there’s not many  straws in it yet.”

You can here the entire interview about water on KFYO at 6 a.m. on the 8th of July.
