The 9th Annual Westerner Marching Festival will take place Saturday at Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Park. 22 area high school marching bands will perform their University Interscholastic League Contest shows as a warm-up before UIL competition.

Lubbock ISD Director of Fine Arts Will Burks says it's a great event, “The festival gives area bands the opportunity to march on the same turf they’ll march on during UIL Marching Contest.  It also gives band directors the benefit of quality critiques on which to base their final week of instruction before taking their bands to contest.”

Performances occur all day as the first band will perform at 9 a.m. with the final performance occurring at 4:15 p.m.  According to Lubbock ISD, the judges at the event will use the UIL Area scoring system. Awards will be presented at the end of the event.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
