Facebook

A frontage road in Lubbock will close Tuesday as Lubbock Police continue to investigate a fatal wreck.

The accident occurred just after 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18th, when a 1992 Cadillac Eldorado was headed northbound on the frontage road of 900 West Loop 289.

A 2002 Ford Explorer was also headed northbound on the frontage road when the Cadillac attempted to change into the left lane and reportedly collided with the Ford, according to Lubbock Police.

The Explorer rolled and ejected the backseat passenger, 22-year-old Aaron Osborn. The Cadillac spun around, and the Explorer came to a rest partially on top of the Cadillac.

Osborn was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac, 63-year-old Macello Acuna Jr. was uninjured and a passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver and front-seat passenger of the Ford were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Lubbock Police’s Accident Investigation Unit will close the northbound frontage road of West Loop 289 near Frankford on Tuesday, May 20th at 9 a.m.

Normal travel will be permitted on Loop 289, except that the exit for Fourth Street will be closed for northbound traffic.

LPD expects that the roadway will be reopened by noon.
