According to the Geological Survey, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake hit Scurry County over the weekend.

The 'quake occurred on the evening of Saturday, January 9 around 8:00 p.m. with an epicenter 12 miles north to northeast of Snyder. Early indications are that the tremor could have been the result of oilfield drilling.

There have been no reports of any damage stemming from the earthquake that was felt mainly in Scurry and Fisher Counties.

Not uncommon in those parts, a quake registering 4.3 back on September 11, 2011 was the largest reported earthquake to ever hit Scurry County.
