We often worry a lot about keeping ourselves cool over the hot days of summer, but what about our 4-legged friends?

As most of us know, dogs do not sweat, so they have to find other ways to keep their body temp under control, like panting.

Some ways you can help keep your dog in top health during the dog days of summer include walking them early in the morning or later in the evening. This keeps them out of the intense heat of the day.

Another reason to keep them out of the sun is that dogs with short fur and/or light colored skin can sunburn just like we do.

Once a dog's temperature hits 104 degrees, they're in trouble, and we don't want that.

Also, remember their paws; the pavement gets VERY HOT. You don't like walking on hot pavement without any shoes on, so think about how your dog feels.

Keep plenty of water available both indoors and out.

The rest is easy -- just take care of your buddy, and it will take care of you!
