A water line break near Texas Tech caused some traffic diversions Friday evening.

The break occurred at Glenna Goodacre Blvd. and University Avenue late Friday afternoon.

According to the City of Lubbock, a contractor doing roadwork in the area accidentally cut through the water line, causing the issues.

As of 6 p.m., City crews were working on an emergency line locate project due to the break which was expected to take around two hours, and then the repair work could begin.

Water usage in the area was to be transferred to other nearby water lines to avoid service interruptions.

Southbound traffic along University Avenue will experience some delays during the water line repair work.
