Tuesday night in Austin, just after 10 o'clock, Governor-Elect Greg Abbott addressed supporters after his Election Day victory.

Abbott (R) received over 2.7 million votes for 59.6% of the vote.  His Democrat opponent, Wendy Davis, received 38.5 percent of the vote, which amounted to 1.7 million votes.

"The people of Texas have spoken, and I am honored to be your next governor," Abbott said to a boisterous crowd. "I'm living proof that a young man can be broken in half and still rise up to become governor of this state."

Abbott will transition from his Attorney General's position to the governor's office over the next two months and he will announce additional details on Wednesday.

Abbott's Lieutenant Governor will be fellow Republican Dan Patrick, who beat Democrat Leticia Van de Putte.

Abbott also stated, "Tonight, Texans sent a message. You voted for hope over fear; for unity over division." In addition, Abbott pledged to secure the border and to improve Texas public education.
