Later this year, mega-retailer Walmart will open its sixth location in Lubbock. However, the Arkansas-based company will not open a Walmart Supercenter, but rather a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market concept features a smaller location with mostly grocery store options for shopping inside.  The Walmart Neighborhood Market will be located at 98th Street and University Avenue and it is slated to open this summer.

Earlier this week, Walmart announced they will add up to 95 additional people to staff the new Neighborhood Market. A temporary hiring center has opened at 8004 Indiana Avenue, Suite A7 inside the Melonie Square Shopping Center.

Walmart will accept applications Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Interested applicants may also apply online.  According to Walmart, most of the new staff will begin work in June to help prepare the store for its grand opening.

According to store manager Matthew Ranard, the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates.

"We are excited about becoming a part of the community, and in order to succeed, I feel we need to employ many local residents who know the area and the future customers," said Ranard.

The latest Walmart Supercenter, in Lubbock, opened last month at 114th Street and Quaker Avenue.
