The opioid epidemic exists everywhere, even right here in Lubbock. And thanks to state law and the folks at Walgreens, you can now get the overdose antidote medication Narcan over the counter without a prescription.

From The Consumerist:

Walgreens pharmacists will also be available to instruct patients on how to administer the medication on Narcan demo devices. However, Walgreens notes that caretakers or other helpers also call 9-1-1, because the treatment is not a substitute for medical care.

The Lubbock-area locations are carrying Narcan. And while this isn't a solution to the crisis, Walgreens should be applauded for trying to save people who are addicted to such medications.
