Looks like it's going to be another windy day today on the South Plains. It would be nice not to have a repeat of a couple of Sunday's ago with all the wildfires. In order for that to happen though, people will have to use their heads and be smart.

First, don't throw your cigarette butts out the window. It's always annoying to see people do this, but on days like today not only is it annoying, it's also dangerous. Many fires break out because drivers just throw out their cigarettes while driving.

Second, don't operate any machines that might give off sparks if your in a field or anywhere near grass. This seems like common sense, but people still do it. A couple of Sunday's ago a fire was started by someone operating a machine that caused sparks to fly. You know what happened next. Don't do it.

Third, don't burn trash today. Again, this should be obvious.

I realize that most of this information is obvious to most of you reading. I just hope that if we do have high winds today that people will think before they act. I'd hate to see homes go up in flames or towns evacuated because someone was careless.
