More than six miles of roadway in Lubbock County will be improved this year.

TxDOT has begun the $6.8 million project to make roadway improvements to a sizable section of US 87 from Farm-to-Market 1585 to the Lynn County line.

The additions include adding deceleration lanes, widening crossovers, resurfacing the road, and restriping pavement markings.

Lane closures can be expected throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in October of 2012.

The first things to be added are the deceleration lanes, and operations to resurface the roadway will begin in May.

The project contractor is J. Lee Milligan Construction of Amarillo.
