United Supermarkets Will Not Sell Rolling Stone Magazine with Tsarnaev on the Cover

RollingStone.com

Lubbock-based United Supermarkets will not sell the August issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

The music and arts publication put Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover of their upcoming issue. Tsarnaev is the second suspect of the Boston Marathon bombings.

This was an easy business decision for us,” said Robert Taylor, CEO of United Supermarkets, LLC.

To do anything that would glorify terrorist behavior simply goes against what our company stands for.”

Walgreens, among several other retail outlets, have also expressed their dismay with the publication’s decision and will not sell the magazine.

Taylor added that Rolling Stone is only available at a limited number of United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express locations.

Lost in the controversy of the magazine cover is the article itself. The editors made a note saying,

Our hearts go out to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, and our thoughts are always with them and their families. The cover story we are publishing this week falls within the traditions of journalism and Rolling Stone’s long-standing commitment to serious and thoughtful coverage of the most important political and cultural issues of our day. The fact that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is young, and in the same age group as many of our readers, makes it all the more important for us to examine the complexities of this issue and gain a more complete understanding of how a tragedy like this happens. –THE EDITORS”
