Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Eddie Owens, Director of Communications and Public Relations for United Supermarkets, gave details on one way United stores in West Texas are giving back to the community on Tax Day.

All United Supermarkets stores (including Market Street and Amigos locations) in Lubbock and surrounding areas (as well as in the Dallas area) are offering a free meal of beans and cornbread as Tax Day consolation. This will be available from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. The meal is for dine-in only.

Owens said the event this afternoon is "for all of our patrons who want to drop by and take a little comfort in their painstaking tax filing business and get a free serving of beans and cornbread." He noted that the Dallas areas store offered this last year. Thus, Owens suggested "I suspect this is going to become an annual thing now, with as popular as it has been."

All United Supermarkets locations will be closed East Sunday, April 20.
