Wednesday on Lubbock's First News, Robin Hopkins, Director of Health and Wellness for United Supermarkets, listed some ways to make healthier substitutions when grocery shopping.

Hopkins said, "If you build a better basket at the store, you are going to put better meals on your table." United Market Streets will be holding healthier eating expos at various locations January 11-12, from 11 am to 5 pm. The expos will include samples of a variety of healthier food options. They will also provide free health screenings, from which one's blood pressure and BMI can be determined, as well as other health information.

Hopkins said it is important to focus on making changes to food items one puts in the shopping basket, such as snack choices that can be more difficult to find healthier options at first glance. Price tags on food items around the store will be marked with a score number, ranking its level of nutrition. The higher the number, the greater the nutritional value.

For more information visit the Market Street website, or listen to the interview below for more specific food descriptions.
