Monday on Lubbock's First News, Eddie Owens, communications director for United Supermarkets, talked about United's reactions to negative feedback about the company's intention to change the name of the United Spirit Arena.

Owens said the company recognized the mostly negative feedback that has been heard in response to their name change announcement. However, Owens said, "We also know that feedback in this day and age, the age of social media, feedback generally comes from the vocal minority. At least, we hope it's the vocal minority." Owens recalled the changes of other stadium names to support United's change in spite of criticism.

He noted that United has been working to renew their naming rights to ensure they have the rights until 2027. The company's donation of $9.45 million to the arena secured the change and will provide means for other renovation.
