United Supermarkets has announced scholarship awards for some Lubbock students.

On Wednesday, United Supermarkets announced the scholarship recipients of the United Supermarkets Graduate Fellowship Endowment at Texas Tech University for the 2013-14 academic year.

The endowment resulted from a $3 million gift from United to the Texas Tech Foundation to endow two scholarship programs at the university.

“This year’s deserving recipients are active in the Lubbock community and are working toward graduate degrees from Texas Tech University,” said Shelby Crews, executive director of the United Supermarkets Community Foundation. “With financial help from the endowment, we hope these students have a successful, more affordable college experience.”

The students include Lubbock natives Cassandra Huey, Lindsay Huffhines, and Stephany Wines.

Other fellowship endowment recipients include Callan Olive of Amarillo; Robert Imel of Pampa; Amanda King of Plainview; and Philena Farmer of Lamesa.

Also, four recipients will continue to receive the fellowship endowment awarded last year, including Lubbock natives Valeria Hernandez, Cameron Oliver, and David Tombs, as well as Emily Hammer of Perryton.

Recipients will be honored at a reception on October 17th at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center on the Texas Tech campus.
