UIL And District 3-A High School Band Competitions Taking Place This Weekend [AUDIO]

On Friday’s edition of Lubbock’s First News, LISD Fine Arts director Will Burks and Coronado High School band director Mack Bibb talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about some upcoming high school band competitions.

This Saturday is the UIL Area Band Competition in Odessa, Texas. Coronado High School, as well as Lubbock Cooper and Amarillo Tascosa, will be among the 23 bands performing at the competition. Bibb said that the support the Coronado band has received has been incredible, and that he expects his band to do very well in the contest. The 4 winners of the area competition will move on to the State competition in San Antonio.

Also this weekend, the District 3-A band competition will take place out at Lowery Field. The competition will feature bands from the surrounding communities, such as Levelland and Snyder. Burks said that there is a large number of bands competing this year, and he expects that all the bands will put on a fantastic show.
