Texas DPS has released the name of a man who was shot and killed by a state trooper Sunday morning.

Details of the incident were released Monday in a statement by Corporal John Gonzales.

According to the statement, at around 5 a.m. yesterday morning, a female officer conducted a traffic stop on the east service road of US 87, just south of 82nd street. The trooper pulled over a Cadillac sedan for reckless driving.

After failing to identify himself, the trooper attempted to place the driver under arrest. The driver reportedly resisted arrest and charged at the trooper. He was then shot by veteran trooper Corina Jandrew.

Twenty year old Brandon Leonel Monroy of Tulare, California was taken to UMC where he was pronounced dead. Monroy had multiple warrants for his arrest out of California.

The Texas DPS Rangers are conducting an investigation of the incident.
