Two people were arrested following a high-speed chase Tuesday evening.

The chase began in Slaton when a car, reportedly driven by 42-year-old Shelly Blair, attempted to speed away during a traffic stop.

Speeds were reached in the chase in excess of 90 miles per hour.

During the chase, 30-year-old Roberto Rivera, a passenger in Blair’s vehicle, reportedly began shooting at the police officers that were in pursuit.

The chase ended around 9 p.m. when Blair crashed her car into a field on Woodrow Road between Highway 87 and University Avenue.

Blair was immediately arrested, but Rivera escaped on foot. He was arrested at a home in Lubbock near 49th Street and Avenue X around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Blair and Rivera have initially been charged with evading arrest and being a felon in possession of a firearm, but more charges are likely to follow. Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputies and the Slaton Police Department were involved in the chase.
