One man is dead after a truck crash in Garza County on Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 4:14 p.m. Thursday, just five miles south of Post on US 84.

According to Texas DPS, 28-year-old Alexander Gerald Wilkerson of Muleshoe was driving a semi truck northbound on US 84, and was pulling a trailer loaded with cattle.

Wilkerson failed to negotiate a curve, lost control of the truck, and crossed the center median into the southbound traffic lanes.

He collided head-on with 50-year-old Ronald Gene Turner of Lubbock, who was also driving a semi on US 84.

Both trucks caught fire and were completely destroyed. Wilkerson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Turner was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock and is in stable condition.

Around 30 head of cattle were killed during the crash, which blocked US 84 for a few hours.
