A traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle Monday morning resulted in the seizure of more than 50 pounds of marijuana.

A Texas DPS trooper stopped a 2013 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on US 87 near Dumas in Moore County at around 9:17 a.m. Monday.

During the stop, the trooper conducted a search of the vehicle and found 45 bundles of marijuana in the trunk.

The 51 pounds of marijuana had a value of more than $23,000.

The driver of the vehicle, 53-year-old Joel A. Sanford of Sacramento, California, was placed under arrest and has been charged with possession of marijuana, a first degree felony.

The drugs were reportedly being transported from Sacramento, California to an unknown location.

Five others have been arrested in traffic stops in the Panhandle for the possession of sizable amounts of illegal drugs over the past two months.
