A traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle Monday morning resulted in the seizure of more than 50 pounds of marijuana.

A Texas DPS trooper stopped a 2013 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on US 87 near Dumas in Moore County at around 9:17 a.m. Monday.

During the stop, the trooper conducted a search of the vehicle and found 45 bundles of marijuana in the trunk.

The 51 pounds of marijuana had a value of more than $23,000.

The driver of the vehicle, 53-year-old Joel A. Sanford of Sacramento, California, was placed under arrest and has been charged with possession of marijuana, a first degree felony.
