A drug bust near Amarillo late last week yielded more than 50 pounds of marijuana.

A Texas DPS trooper initiated a traffic stop along I-40 on Friday, which led to the seizure of marijuana valued at more than $229,000.

At around 2:46 p.m. Friday, the trooper stopped a 2013 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on I-40 and during a search of the vehicle, discovered 50 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana in the trunk.

The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Shrish Upreti of Richland Hills, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

According to Texas DPS, the drugs were allegedly being transported from Fresno, California to Fort Worth.

Two others were arrested on I-40 near Amarillo earlier this month after DPS troopers found seven pounds of marijuana and nearly three ounces of ecstasy.
