I didn't have to do any additional research for this article because, bang bang, I am The Warrior. At thrift-ing, anyway.

Here's my top 5 (in no particular order) favorite thrift and re-sell stores here in Lubbock. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses, so it's all about the hunt.

    Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store

Best for: Costumes, High Quality Furniture, Weird Stuff, Books, Matching Glassware

Located at 1301 Buddy Holly Ave., the Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store is amazing, and perfect for those seeking something truly unique, strange or beautiful. I have personally bought several dresses from the 60s and 70s, creepy old photographs and a vintage embroidered silk kimono from Japan. I have lusted over several items of furniture. However, they can be a little costly, but totally fair for the quality.

Although very "tight," this place is organized well once you get used to it. There's so many odds and ends I can't begin to list everything they carry, so lets just say they carry everything.

    American Council of the Blind

Best for: Affordable Clothing, Affordable Furniture, Affordable Kitchen Items, "Project" Items

Did I mention the American Council of the Blind, located at 1508 34th St., is affordable? Everything here is very inexpensive so if you need a couch, desk, headboard, etc. on a budget, you should look here first.

They carry quite a bit of clothing and organize it by type, size and color so it's easy to find what you are looking for. This is where I donate everything because it's so easy to get help if you need it. This is where I got my 1982 boys Galactus shirt as drawn by Jack Kirby. If you're a supreme nerd, you'll respect that.

My fiancee has repaired items he bought here for dirt cheap. He turned a $10 investment into an Aerogarden worth $300 by doing some simple repairs.

    Plato's Closet

Best for: Current Fashions, Handbags, Designer Items, Shoes and Clearance Sales

This is my Veruca Salt "don't care how, I want it now!" shopping haven. I rarely walk out of Plato's Closet, located at 4835 50th St., without a dress, some heels, some purple pants, some shoes for my fiance, etc, etc.

The prices are very fair for the quality and brands, but if you can catch some of their better clearance sales you're in for a real treat. Not too long ago, every clearance item was ONE DOLLAR. It was amazing. I bought about 20 things, and I could have bought more but I got tuckered out. I wasn't aware that was possible.

Since Plato's Closet is re-sell friendly, you can make some money by selling your clothes back. I always donate my clothes -- just a personal preference. They also have their themed sister stores if your needs are different: Once Upon a Child, Play It Again Sports and the brand spanking new Style Encore.

    Culture Clothing

Best for: "Curated" Clothing, Local Events, Best Buy-Back and Ability to Shop Online

Culture Clothing is a hip, yet welcoming place with a "curated" selection of used but currently in style clothing. By "curated" I mean that they select truly desirable items so the shop feels like a regular boutique store, no fluff found here. They also carry real vintage items.

Culture Clothing, located at 2703 26th St., is also always open during First Friday Art Trail, with live music playing and local art hanging on the walls. The buy back program is clear, easy and fair. If they chose your item you get one-third of what they plan to sell it for. The have a system to keep track of you so you don't have to fill stuff out every time. And if I remember correctly, you get a little extra if you opt for credit over cash. Furthermore, you can snag a large portion of their items in their online shop if you prefer.

    Savers

Best for: Huge Inventory, Fundraising Opportunities, Monday Sale

If you want to pick the best sweater out of 9 million sweaters, this is the place to go.

Savers at 2015 50th St. is the most massive thrift shop in town. It's laid out in a way that makes finding the specific type of item you want easy to find. They also have a fundraising program should you wish to host a drive for your charity. On Mondays, one color tag is marked down to 99 cents, which can lead you into a major score if you're willing to dig in.
