A notable newsman has cancelled a speaking commitment in Lubbock.

Tom Brokaw’s representatives have informed Lubbock Christian University that he is unable to speak at the University’s “An Evening with…” series due to a recent serious back injury.

Due to the cancellation, LCU has cancelled the “An Evening Honoring the Greatest Generation with Tom Brokaw,” which was scheduled for October 3rd, 2013.

In a statement to LCU, Brokaw said “I regret that I won’t be able to be with you on October 3rd for the Biennial Benefit Dinner for LCU.”

The event was scheduled to be the fourth benefit dinner for the university featuring a national known speaker. The “An Evening with…” series was introduced in 2007 with General Colin Powell, and continued with former President George W. Bush in 2009 and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in 2011.

LCU President L. Timothy Perrin said “We are deeply grateful to the many LCU friends and supporters who have provided support for this significant event, and we are disappointed to cancel it.”

Perrin continued, saying “We are quickly moving ahead with plans for our next event in the ‘An Evening with…’ dinner series, and we hope to be able to share more information about those plans in the near future.

Those who purchased sponsorships, tables, and individual tickets will receive a refund from LCU. The refunds will be returned within the next few business days in the same way they were paid.
