A Lubbock City Councilman has announced that he will not run for any public office in the near future.

District Three Councilman Todd Klein announced last year that he would not run for the Council seat again, but had not ruled out the possibility of running for another position.

Klein made the announcement on his Facebook page Monday evening that he has decided not to run for public office for now.

Klein did say that “Should the opportunity to serve in public office present itself at another time, I will consider that possibility then.”

The Councilman’s full statement is included below.

The Lubbock City Council will hold their next meeting on Thursday, December 12th at Lubbock City Hall.

I very much appreciate the encouragement I received from family, friends, and others in the community but after much prayer and personal reflection I have come to the decision that I have other pursuits that at this time take me away from public office, but not public service.

The guiding principle for me throughout this consideration has been where can I do the most good and have the greatest influence in serving the public. At this point in time I believe that answer leads me to service as a private citizen.

I will not be a candidate for office in this year's spring elections, but will continue to be engaged in serving the public as a private citizen. In that regard, I hope to help empower other citizens to engage their government and lead their community.

Should the opportunity to serve in public office present itself at another time, I will consider that possibility then.

I want to again thank all of you who urged me to run for Mayor or another office this spring, your encouragement and support has meant more to me than words can describe. I have been humbled and honored to have such kindness.

I am proud of all that we have together achieved, and I intend to work as hard as ever in my remaining months on the City Council. God bless you all, and thank you all for the honor of serving on the City Council.

Sincerely,

Todd Klein
