During Wednesday's edition ofLubbock's First Newson KFYO, Tiffany Downing of The Red Cross talked about the Red Cross Open House going on later today, July 30th.

The Red Cross is currently looking for individuals to volunteer for various roles within the organization. Roughly 2-3 hours of training are required to become a basic volunteer, but more advanced volunteering positions require further training. Some of the advanced training classes are CPR and First Aid, both for humans and pets.

For those interested in volunteering, there will be an open house today, July 30th, from 2-4:30PM. There will be information on the volunteering process, as well as information for donors. The open house will take place at the Red Cross center on 2201 and 19th Street.

"The great thing about the Red Cross is because we do have so many different services, you can find something that fits your personality. You can work with kids if you want, you can go out on these disaster scenes at two in the morning if you want. You can kind of set your own schedule., and training can go on as long as you want it to," Downing said.

The classes are very affordable, and all training is offered locally. To get involved, call 1-800-REDCROSS. To find out more about the organization, including how to donate, visit the Red Cross website here.
