Three Lubbock ISD teachers have been selected for an excellence in education award.

Lisa Powell from Waters Elementary, Patricia Farr from J.T. Hutchinson Middle School, and Melissa Wafer-Cross of Lubbock High School have been selected to receive the Beaumont Foundation Newton Excellence in Education Award.

The Beaumont Foundation’s Frank and Nancy Newton Excellence in Education Award was created to celebrate and recognize superior contributions of teachers whose leadership and dedication inspire a spirit of learning in students of all backgrounds and learning abilities.

Each award recipient will be honored at an awards gala, receive a crystal obelisk, a portrait, and $10,000.

Six teachers are selected annually from Lubbock County for this award.

“Education is the key to a better future and great teachers are the key to education,” said Wayne Reaud, chairman of the board of the Beaumont Foundation. “Our winners are outstanding representatives of excellence in education.”
