Three Lubbock ISD Academic Decathlon teams have finished in the top ten.

Academic Decathlon teams from all four Lubbock ISD high schools qualified for the state tournament, and three managed to finish in the top ten of their respective divisions.

Lubbock High School continued their success at the state tournament with a fifth place overall finish in the medium school division. Lubbock High students received eight individual medals, including three medals in economics.

Monterey High School finished ninth in the state in the medium school division, which is the highest ranking ever achieved by a Monterey Academic Decathlon team.

Monterey student Logan Wilks was the fourth highest-scoring decathlete in the state in the dvision, and secured a $1,000 scholarship and nine individual medals.

The Estacado High School team finished sixth in the state in the small school division, and won first place in the Super Quiz Relay. This was Estacado’s 17th consecutive trip to state in Academic Decathlon.

Estacado student Kelvin Cassity finished as the third highest-scoring student in the small school division, securing a bronze medal, and a $1,500 scholarship. He collected seven medals overall for Estacado.

Students involved in Academic Decathlon work from August to February studying ten different events.
