In 1968, the Estacado High School Matadors varsity football team won the Texas 3A State Championship, becoming the first Texas high school to win a state title during its first year of UIL competition eligibility.

On Monday's Chad Hasty Show hosted by Scott Mann and Matt Crow, author Al Pickett joined the broadcast to talk about his new book documenting the story.

During the interview, Pickett said, "Nobody, other than Estacado's ever won a state championship in that first year." Pickett continued, describing the power and ability of this team. Pickett said,

Now listen to how dominating this team was. They outscored their opponents that year 552 to 32, that's domination!
