On March 4, the Texas Workforce Commission released job statistics showing Lubbock's unemployment rate rose to 3.3 percent in January.

3.3 percent in January is up from the 3.1 percent unemployment rate calculated in December.

In December 149,600 residents in the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area held jobs, a number that dwindled down to 149,100 in January.

However, the new findings are still an improvement on one year ago when the unemployment rate was calculated at 3.6 percent for the Lubbock statistical area in 2015.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Amarillo holds the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.9 percent with the Austin-Round Rock area ranking second at 3.2.

The Lubbock metropolitan statistical area was third on the list.

As a whole the state of Texas improved on it’s unemployment for the month, falling to 4.5 percent in January from 4.6 in December.
