The Texas Tech volleyball team beat Louisiana-Lafayette and Utah State in a doubleheader sweep on Friday.

In what was called the Texas Tech Fall Invitational at the United Supermarkets Arena, Texas Tech beat both schools 3-0.

In the second game of the day against Louisiana-Lafayette, the Red Raiders took three straight sets by the scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20.

Senior Jenna Allen led the way for the Red Raider attack with eight kills. The Red Raiders had 10 players record at least 1 kill.

Marguerite Grubb was the star of the day posting 28 assists, along with six digs and three kills. She tallied 32 assists in the first match of the day against Utah State.

“I thought Grubb was fantastic all day today,” head coach Don Flora said. “She did a lot of great things. She had the best camp of anybody, so she was prepared and it showed.”

“It was good to see a lot of people get a chance to get some first time jitters and communication things out of the way and be able to get their first true sweat under the bright lights,” Flora said after getting players their first action of the season.

The Red Raiders return to action Saturday morning at the United Supermarkets Arena in their final match of the Texas Tech Fall Invitational, which is set to begin at 11 a.m. against Houston.
