The Texas Tech track and field team has placed in the top 10 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer rankings for the third week in a row.

This week’s eighth place ranking comes after the Red Raiders finished fifth at the 2013 Big 12 Indoor Championships on Sunday, with two Tech athletes winning conference titles.

Senior Kennedy Kithuka remained unbeaten during his career, and won his second Big 12 title last Sunday with a meet record performance in the 3,000-meter run. Kithuka also won the Big 12 5,000 meter run on Saturday.

Tech freshman Nick Rivera won the men’s 800-meter run, becoming the first Red Raider in school history to win a Big 12 title in this particular event.

Texas Tech sophomore Kole Weldon won silver in the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.94 meters, and broke another school record in the process.

Katie Grimes continued her senior season, finishing as the runner up in the women’s 60-meter hurdles as well.

The Red Raiders placed fourth last week in the USTFCCCA rankings, their highest indoor ranking in school history.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held on March 8th and 9th at the Randal-Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
