On Thursday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Dr. Mark Charney from the Texas Tech Theater Department talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about their upcoming production.

The Texas Tech Theater Department will be putting on the original performance "Next Exit," this weekend. The play is based on interviews that Charney and his students had with the young adults from the Lubbock Transitional Center, many of who have been in foster care and shelters for most of their lives.

Charney said that when these young adults turn 18, or "age out" of the foster care system, they are often times unprepared for adult life. He said this play would highlight some of these individuals and their experiences in foster care and beyond.

"Next Exit" will be performed on Friday, May 10th at 7:30 PM and Saturday, May 11th, at 3 PM at the Louise-Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts' Firehouse Theater. Admission to the play is free and is open to everyone 12 and over.
