Texas Tech’s star soccer player has been eliminated from the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Texas Tech Senior Janine Beckie joined the National Canadian team this summer in Edmonton, Alberta, and was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Germany. Beckie helped the Canadian team tremendously by scoring her first goal and leading Canada to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Finland after losing to Ghana in their first group match.

The Canadians went on to defeat North Korea and move out of the group phase into the quarterfinals where they were eliminated by Germany 2-0.

“The game can be cruel and today it was,” Beckie said. “Germany was a great side and scored two good goals. This journey has been incredible and one I’ll never forget. I have learned so much more then I could have imagined and I have grown into a better and more dynamic player.”

Although Beckie’s run at the cup is over, she will be remember as Canada’s top scorer. Beckie will now return to Lubbock in anticipation of the coming season where she is considered one of the top forwards in the game already having been named to All-Big 12 Team and the MAC Hermann Watch List earlier in the summer.
