A Texas Tech women’s soccer player has received national recognition.

Freshman forward Janine Beckie has become the first Red Raider in program history to be named the Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Week.

Beckie has already been named as the Big 12 Rookie of the Year, and earned admission to the All-Big 12 First Team, along with four other Red Raiders.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized at the national level,” said Tech head coach Tom Stone. “But Janine has worked very hard all year for this team, and any recognition that comes her way is well earned.”

Beckie leads the Red Raiders into the 2012 Big 12 Championships this weekend as the team’s leading scorer with 11 goals, which also paces all Big 12 freshmen.

Beckie, a Highlands Ranch, Colorado native, has earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors twice, and is the first freshman this year to receive this particular freshman designation.
