Bus service will now accompany Texas Tech’s SafeRide program.

The S-Bus will now run from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and is free to any student at Texas Tech with a valid student ID.

The bus will make stops at Broadway and the Intersection of 18th Street and Buddy Holly Avenue in the Depot District, as well as all of the apartment complexes within the Overton Area, including University Fountains, University Pointe, University Trails, The Centre, The Suites, and the Cottages. The expected route time is 24 minutes. The bus will run anytime school is in session, including the summer months.

Texas Tech Student Government says that the program could be expanded to every apartment complex that uses the bus service during regular hours of operation if successful.

“We believe Tech finally has a sustainable model to keep more students safe on the weekends and greatly reduce wait times for those who may not be near a bus route and still need to call a cab,” said Tyler Patton, SGA president.

Texas Tech’s Safe Ride program provides taxi pickup for anywhere within the Lubbock City limits to a residence, and is available from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. nightly, for students with a valid Texas Tech ID. The pickup service is covered in student transportation fees. To contact Safe Ride, call 742-RIDE.
