A team of Texas Tech researchers has made its way to the Gulf Coast for research on Tropical Storm Bill. The researchers are a part of the Texas Tech University Hurricane Research Team.

12 StickNet probes have been deployed along a stretch of Texas coastline from Brazoria County to Port Lavaca.

The StickNet probes are tripods that are outfitted with instruments to collect data. Wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure, rainfall, temperature and humidity are all observed by the probes and the probes have the ability to send the data in real-time to the research team.

Dr. Rich Krupar tells KAMC News that the information collected will be used by a number of groups including: the National Weather Service, insurance agencies and fellow  meteorologists.
