Texas Tech has officially opened their new dining hall.

The ribbon cutting was held Wednesday for The Commons by United Supermarkets.

The new stand-alone facility, located at 18th Street and Boston Avenue, features 20,500 square feet of food outlets, including a Mongolian-style grill, pizzeria, mini-market, and Einstein Bros. Bagels.

The Commons by United Supermarkets was named in recognition of the company’s $3 million donation to Texas Tech, which created two new student scholarship programs at the University, and supports the growing nursing program at the Health Sciences Center.

“The need for more dining space reflects the impressive growth of our university, and I am confident we will be able to accommodate increasing numbers of students in the coming years,” said Chancellor Kent Hance.

The new dining hall is located next to the new Boston Avenue Residence Hall.
