Texas Tech Junior Janine Beckie has been named to the to the Canadian National Team and is set to compete in the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Toronto this August.

The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native was selected for the team after participating in several training programs in Canada and the United States. She is eligible to play for either national team at the youth national level.

Red Raider Soccer head coach Tom Stone said that Beckie has been following a path towards playing international soccer for some time.

"She has been very determined and focused on developing her game since she arrived at Texas Tech two years ago and we could not be happier that she has been named to the final roster to compete in the U-20 World Cup,” Stone said. “The experience she will gain will be a valuable part of her growth and we are excited to have `Neener' represent all Red Raiders on the international stage."

In just two seasons playing for the Red Raiders, Beckie has scored 61 points which has put her among the top-five career leaders for Tech.

At the U-20 World Cup this August, Beckie and her team will compete in in Group A against North Korea, Findland and Ghana. Canada will open the competition against Ghana on August 5.
