Texas Tech University announced Friday, April 11th that it has received an honor.

Texas Tech was designated Friday morning as a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Commander John Murdock of the Military Order of the Purple Heart awarded the designation to Tech during a service in the Veteran and Family Lounge, which is located in the Student Union Building basement.

Tech is receiving the accolade after participating in the National Day of Remembrance Roll Call, where Tech provided service to wounded warriors through various Military and Veterans Programs and the Veterans Administration.

Tech has also been recognized by State Commander James R. Berg as one of three Purple Heart Universities in the nation, and the very first in Texas.
