A Texas Tech freshman quarterback has earned conference honors.

Davis Webb has been named as the Big 12 Conference Offense Player of the Week following his first career start against Iowa State.

Webb helped lead the Red Raiders to a 42-35 win on Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

Webb, a Prosper, Texas native, is the second Red Raider to earn the award this year and the second quarterback. Baker Mayfield received the honor following his season-opening win at SMU on August 31st.

On Saturday, Webb threw for 415 yards against Iowa State along with three touchdowns. His passing yards are the most by a Big 12 quarterback this season, barely edging out Mayfield’s 413-yard total against SMU.

Three different Texas Tech freshman quarterbacks have earned the honor, which is the most by any school in league history. Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury took the award following his career start against Oklahoma in 1999.
