A chess grandmaster will attempt to beat numerous Texas Tech fraternity representatives at once.

Texas Tech head chess coach and International Grandmaster Alex Onischuk will take on between 20 and 40 fraternity representatives simultaneously in games of chess.

Onischuk will walk from board to board inside a rectangle of tables, playing against the fraternity challengers seated at chessboards around the outside of the rectangle.

The best-performing fraternity will keep the traveling “Texas Tech Greek Chess Challenge” trophy until next year’s event.

The representative that performs the best will also earn the right to play Onischuk in a one-on-one game during the spring semester, during which Onischuk will be blindfolded.

The event will take place at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 7th just east of the Student Union Building, at 15th Street and Akron Avenue.
