Texas Tech (7-3) has had a pretty good start to the 2016 season. Really, beyond losing to NM on Tuesday the start has been very good. 2 top wins against top 10 teams go along way to making this teams start so hot.

Neslony, who hit 2 homeruns in a 4-4 effort on Wednesday, Gutierrez and Raley have led the way offensively on an offense that is batting .325 collectively. 5 different players have hit bombs. 2 guys already have double digit RBIs. They are also responsible for a 7.33 ERA against.

The defense has also been good with a .968 fielding percentage. The infield is also responsible for the second most double plays in the nation.

The pitching to start the year is off to a good start as well. In 3 losses there have been innings guys would definitely like back but as a whole the staff has done it's job. With a 3.26 ERA and starters Ryan Mosely and Ty Damron have provided experience on the mound and both have notched wins already.

Even pitchers who had bad outings have rebounded, Gingery rebounded Wednesday night for 12 Ks in just 5.1 innings of work. That ties the Texas Tech K record for a game. Gingery is a freshman.

This team has an attitude that is needed to be a successful team. After losing to NM on Tuesday Eric Gutierrez said the team was not happy. You could tell when they hit 5 homeruns the next day and put NM into the ground.

This weekend provides a unique experience so early in a season with a team that seems to be in the post season every year, Cal State Fullerton. This year they come in to Lubbock ranked 22, a spot ahead of 23rd ranked Texas Tech.

The 3 game series starts Friday, March 4th with first pitch at 6:30. With Saturday and Sunday games following. This will be the Titans first trip to Lubbock but not the first time the 2 schools have squared off. Texas Tech is 1-4 all time vs Fullerton.

Texas Tech looks to avenge being swept in 2015 by Cal State in California. The Titans beat the Red Raiders 4-0, 3-2 and 6-5 in a series last season when Tech was ranked 5th in the nation.

Ryan Mosely, Ty Damron and Ty Harpenau will likely take the mound, not particularly in that order, for the Red Raiders, while Colton Eastman and Brett Conine are the 2 aces on the bump for Cal State. The 3rd Titan hurler is TBA.

Texas Tech has a great opportunity to win 2 of 3 and is the better team going into the weekend. The prolific offense of the Red Raiders and the deeper pitching staff will be the difference.
