Texas Tech’s baseball team was caught in the threat of Oklahoma City’s tornado weather yesterday. The players took shelter at their hotel in downtown Oklahoma City, where Big 12 Conference teams are preparing for their tournament.  Twenty miles away a massive tornado was ripping through Oklahoma City suburbs killing several people.

Scott Lacefield, the team’s communications director, said the team and other hotel patrons were alerted by a high-pitched alarm followed by a recording that told people to go to the ground level floor immediately. Tech players remained in a hallway for more than 30 minutes as heavy winds and horizontal rain pounded the area.
