The Texas Tech Red Raiders lost their seventh consecutive Big 12 Tournament opener Wednesday, falling 2-1 to their in-state rival Texas Longhorns in Tulsa, OK.

Left-handed pitcher Cameron Smith (6-5) was hung with the tough luck loss on a day he set his career high in single game strikeouts (8). His final line: 6.1 innings pitched, allowing two runs on five hits with the aforementioned eight strikeouts and only two walks.

Tech will now have a date with the loser of the TCU v. Baylor contest in the Big 12 Tournament's first elimination game tomorrow at 9 a.m. at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
